Q. Are there requirements I must meet to receive the account’s rewards?

A. Just 3 easy-to-meet requirements that you probably already do (or would like to do) each statement period:

  • 10 posted Debit Card Point of Sale transactions (not ATM).
  • At least 1 Direct Deposit or ACH/Automatic Debit
  • Receive your periodic bank statement electronically using a valid email address.
Q. What rewards do I receive for meeting the monthly requirements?

A. You will receive the following rewards for each statement cycle in which you meet the requirements:
  • 3.94% APY (Annual Percentage Yield) on your account collected balance up to $25,000.
  • 1.01% APY on collected balances over $25,000.
  • ATM surcharge refunds up to $25.00 per statement cycle. Any ATM. Anywhere in the U.S.A.
Q. What happens if I don’t meet the requirements during a statement period?

A. Your account will still be Free and you will still earn interest on the entire balance. The interest rate will default to 0.25%. You will not receive a refund of ATM surcharges.

Q. Is there a minimum balance requirement?

A. NO. THERE IS NO REQUIRED MINIMUM BALANCE.

Q. Are there check-writing limitations?

A. There are no limitations as long as the account is used only for personal, family and household needs.

Q. How will I know if I qualified for the rewards?

A. There are two ways to know.
  • You will receive an email at the end of each statement cycle giving you detailed information about the requirements, interest earned, and ATM surcharge refunds.
  • You can also look on your statement to check the interest paid to your account and look for the ATM refunds.

Overdraft Protection, Overdraft Privilegesm

We want to help you avoid overdrafts and the embarrassment and expense of returned checks should an overdraft occur. Here is how we can help.

Overdraft Protection is a prearranged agreement in which we will automatically transfer funds from one account to another should an overdraft occur. For example, you can use the funds in your First State Bank savings account to protect your checking account. Should you have an overdraft in the checking account, our computer will transfer funds in $100 (or larger) increments to correct the overdraft. The transfer not only allows us to pay the overdrawing checks, but it saves you the cost of the overdraft fees.

There is no cost to set up this protection. All you need are two or more accounts at First State Bank. Anyone in the New Accounts or Bookkeeping departments can help you set up this service.

Overdraft Privilegesm does not require a second account, and the procedures and conditions are handled differently. But we can still help you avoid "bounced" checks. Here is how this service works. Any customer who has demonstrated an intention and ability to properly handle an account may qualify for Overdraft Privilegesm. If you qualify, we will establish an Overdraft Privilegesm Line for your account. Should the account become overdrawn, we will honor your checks up to the amount of the Overdraft Privilegesm Line. The amount of the line varies based upon the type of account you open and the average balance maintained in the account. "Free Checking" accounts may receive an Overdraft Privilegesm line amount up to $350. Other accounts may receive a line up to $700.

Do overdraft fees apply? Yes they do. Overdraft Protection (transfers between accounts) helps you completely avoid an overdraft so there are no overdraft fees applied. Overdraft Privilegesm allows us to pay items that will cause an overdraft. Because the account becomes overdrawn, the normal overdraft fees will apply. But the benefit to you is that the check is not returned, so you avoid embarrassment and the fees the payee might charge and any legal entanglements that might arise.

There is no cost to you when a line is established. Overdraft Privilegesm is available only for consumer accounts; commercial customers do not qualify for this service. Anyone in our New Accounts area can provide complete details on how this service works, the rules and terms and conditions.
